WALGREEN'S - HANOVER PARK, IL

This location is currently under investigation by the
Illinois Attorney General's Office, Disability Bureau

The way it is
This picture shows two handicapped parking signs on the wall and on a pillar for two eight foot spaces sharing a common eight foot stripped area.

The handicapped parking space on the left might be considered to comply with the law if it were not sharing the stripped area with another handicapped parking space.

The only access is a concrete ramp in front of the pillar and is too narrow and dangerous for a wheelchair, cart, walker, or cane.

The way it should be

  1. Each parking space, except on-street spaces, shall consist of a sixteen foot wide parking space including an eight foot wide diagonalty striped access aisle. Adjacent parking spaces shall not share a common access aisle.

  2. The minimum width of a curb ramp shall be 36 in. (915 mm), exclusive of flared sides. (ADAAG 4.7.3)

  3. Slopes of curb ramps shall comply with subsection (e)(2) o) Section. (2%)

Who is okaying these plans? Who are the federal and state governments going to charge and fine for discrimination against the handicapped?
