Chairman-CEO
Walgreen's
200 Wilnot Rd
Deerfield, IL. 600015

Dear Mr. Bernauer:

The Unified Voice for Disabled Americans would like to thank you for coming to an agreement with IL. Attny. General Lisa Madigan to fix all your stores and make them handicapped accessible for the one million five hundred thousand persons with disabilities in the state of Illinois.

It is our understanding that you are hiring an outside firm to make sure all corrections to your stores are done correctly. On July 26th, the new Government Access Board, set up by President Bush, is going to give all their proposals. These proposals cover accessibility and corrections plus. They will tell how you can obtain this complete list. Please check out our web site and we have all the newsletters. The first newsletter goes into detail with the corrections for sidewalk openings and curb openings. How the existing ones can be corrected and how the future ones are to be put into place. This proposal states the size and depth openings.

I started the complaint against Walgreen's with Lisa Dana. Senator Lisa Madigan and Ms. Yolanda Treiguts then met with Walgreen's to see if they could help out. The results were just finalized.

Please consider taking it one step further. We had asked for a motorized shopping cart in each of your stores. We were told it would be put under advisement.

Mr. Bernauer, this cart is our life and freedom to shop. Please understand persons with disabilities want to be able to shop, go to restaurants, shows, theatres, school, work and travel. We did not want the disability we have by a birth defect, accident, war or crippling diseases. All we are asking for is the chance to live as normal a life as possible. We have read "THE WALGREEN CREED". If this is true then it covers everyone, even with DISABILITIES.

We have a suggestion that you may consider. Please make a TV commercial stating in addition to all of the Walgreen's stores going to be handicap accessibility Walgreen's is ALSO going to put in each of their stores a automatic shopping cart. Do you realize what this will do for the WALGREEN'S IMAGE and what it will do for your sales in one year? We now can come into your store not only to pick up our prescription. We can look around and shop. We can do it alone and feel independent. Have a handicap person using the shopping cart shopping in the store. ONLY USE A DISABLED PERSON.

Walgreen's now can live up to THE WALGREEN CREED.

Please let us hear from you.
