Ms. Lisa Madigan
Illinois Attorney General
500 S. Second St.
Springfield, IL 62706
Dear Ms. Madigan:
The United Voice for Disabled Americans would like to thank you for the final decision on Walgreen's.
Accessibility to their stores is very important to all of us with a disability. This is a start that acknowledges our rights for freedom and dignity we have been fighting for.
July 26th, the Government Access Board that President George Bush formed will present their final proposals. These proposals being presented will help correct all the injustices we have been experiencing since the ADA Law was put into law July 26, 1990.
The Unified Voice for Disabled Americans has received all of the US Government Board newsletters. These letters specify exactly what they will propose for the disabled to live their lives with dignity and purpose. We will be watching very closely from the White House on down how these proposals are going to be put into law. We will be making sure that we get the accessibility we need. We will make sure it is enforced for every person with a disability. We will be watching Washington how they are going hold the states accountable for not enforcing this law down to the cities and suburbs. We are holding the US Justice Department to make sure every State is responsible for enforcing the ADA Accessibility Law. We won't be told any more the ADA Law in a law and not a proposal. If it is a law, why are we having all these problems? The biggest joke is everyone does exactly what they want to just get by and then call it ENFORCEMENT of the AMERICAN DISABILITY ACT.
The sole purpose of the Unified Voice for Disabled Americans is to make sure the US Constitution and the Gettysburg Address does not exclude persons with disabilities. We are made up of persons with disabilities and we know what we NEED.
Ms. Madigan, there is a fine of $320.000.00 that Walgreen's has to pay the State of IL. We would like to know when this is going to be paid and EXACTLY how it is going to be distributed. This fine should be distributed to the agencies that work with the disabled. It should not be part of clearing up the DEFICIT for the State of IL. The Unified Voice for Disabled Americans hopes this doesn't become a political fight. We will do what has to be done to see that this money is distributed among the agencies for the disabled. Please do not tell us we have no right to know and it will be handed in Springfield. It won't work. Please check out our web site.
