Parking System
2100 Ridge Ave
Evanston, IL 60201

Dear Ms. Baucom:

We are in receipt of your letter dated June 28, 2004.

Unified Voice for Disabled Americans has spoken to Ms. DeVance re the handicap parking sign in front of her house.

This is our decision re the handicap parking sign. Her alley is gravel and never gets plowed. Ms. DeVance has gotten stuck in the alley several times because of snow.

We have advised Ms. DeVance to take pictures of the alley when it snows at least three inches and not plowed. She is to date the pictures. She is to give us the name of the person or persons who help her to get out of the snow coming out of her garage or getting back into her garage.

Ms. DeVance's aunt has a pace maker and a handicap sticker. Her street is always plowed.

Ms. Paggao and you both may have members in your families with disabilities, which we are sorry to hear. With this information now we know we have to watch the City of Evanston.

We had asked the City of Evanston for help with Northwestern Medical Building Graham Parking Garage. We were told it was private property and could not help us. We got Graham Parking Garage to put in automatic doors on each level before we went to court. A settlement out of court we got six sixteen-foot handicap parking spaces per level.

We started working on Walgreen's two years ago when Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan was Senator. Walgreen's is also PRIVATE PROPERTY. Accessibility goes beyond private property.

The Unified Voice for Disabled Americans was formed to help see the ADA Accessibility Law is enforced. We will accept your decision for now.
