Dear Mayor Daley,

It has taken us three weeks to find out that it is your office for disabilities gives the okay for accessibility on new construction.
We are hoping the City of Chicago is not breaking the ADA Accessibility Law. Jewel Osco on Archer & Austin is brand new construction. The handicap spaces are supposed to be 16 feet wide which means an 8 foot parking place & an 8 foot access area. This a the State & Federal ADA Law. This Law means that handicapped parking spaces are supposed to be near every entrance and not placed all over the parking lot.

Why did your office give the final okay for this Jewel Oscostore when the spaces are not according to ADA Law? A complaint has been filed with the IL Attn. Office. You will also find the correspondence to Jewel Osco and Albertson's.

We cannot get a date from Albertson's because we are insisting that the person from your office that signed these plans be there.

Persons that are handicapped have been discriminated against when it comes to the accessibility law. We do not have our own board or investigators so the law is not enforced correctly. Jim Ryan's office for disabilities is the biggest joke and should be investigated. It takes this office a year to answer a complaint and then they check the wrong address.

UVDA is doing our own investigating and then the source. We have our own web site and everything is posted on it. Please check out our web site http://www.bonewits.net/UVDA-0.htm.

Mayor Daley, we have given Albertson's until the first week of Sept. to meet with your office and us at Jewel Osco.

Please let us hear from you as soon as possible.

Cordially,

Rosemarie A Botthof
