WHO:    The U.S. Access Board (an independent Federal agency - http://www.access-board.gov/indexes/aboutindex.htm) is holding two public hearings to discuss accessibility guidelines for large and small passenger vessels.

WHEN:   The 1st hearing will be held on June 24, 2005 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.  Participants are also invited to a reception which will take place immediately following the hearing.  The 2nd hearing will be held July 25, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. until noontime.

WHERE:  The 1st hearing (and reception) will take place at the Beverly Hilton,  9876 Wilshire Boulevard, Beverly Hills, California 90210.  The 2nd hearing will take place at the Marriott at Metro Center, 775 12th Street, NW, Washington, DC  20005.

WHY:    The Access Board is holding these hearings to seek input on the Board's Notice of Availability of draft guidelines which address accessibility issues that are unique to larger vessels.  Additionally, the Board is seeking comments on the November 2004 published Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking which discusses accessibility issues relating to smaller vessels.  Both of these documents can be obtained on the Board's website (http://www.access-board.gov/news/pvag.htm).

HOW:    The Access Board welcomes input from all interested parties including persons with disabilities and representatives from the passenger vessel industry.  People wishing to testify are encouraged to pre-register.  To pre-register, please e-mail: pvag@access-board.gov.  The hearing will be accessible to persons with disabilities.  Sign language interpreters and assistive listening systems will be available.  Persons attending the hearing are requested to refrain from using perfume, cologne, and other fragrances for the comfort of other participants.
